The State of Transition report 2020 provides a comprehensive assessment of how major global companies are progressing towards the low-carbon transition and aligning with the Paris Agreement. Covering over 330 companies across 16 high-emitting sectors, the report enables investors to evaluate corporate exposure to climate risks and opportunities.

Using TPI’s Management Quality and Carbon Performance frameworks, the report assesses both how companies manage climate-related risks and how their future emissions trajectories compare with international climate targets. Based on publicly disclosed data, it offers a consistent, comparable benchmark of corporate climate performance across sectors.

The report highlights some improvements in corporate climate management, but finds that the majority of companies remain misaligned with Paris-aligned pathways, with many still unprepared for the transition. It provides investors with a clear evidence base to support engagement and decision-making, reinforcing the need for stronger corporate action to meet global climate goals.
