The State of Transition report 2019 provides a comprehensive assessment of how major publicly listed companies are progressing towards the low-carbon transition and aligning with the Paris Agreement. The report evaluates some of the world’s most carbon-intensive firms, helping investors understand corporate exposure to climate risks and opportunities.

Using TPI’s Management Quality and Carbon Performance frameworks, the report assesses both how companies are managing climate-related risks and how their future emissions trajectories compare with international climate targets. Drawing on publicly disclosed data, it enables comparisons across sectors and identifies leaders and laggards in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

The report finds signs of progress, with around 30% of companies aligned with Paris pledges by 2030, but highlights that overall ambition remains insufficient to meet global climate goals. It underscores the gap between current corporate strategies and pathways consistent with limiting warming to well below 2°C, providing investors with a clear benchmark for engagement and decision-making.
